Paper Machine Technology
Paper is a sheet comprised of cellulose fibers. Paper was developed to serve communication in the earlier era. Later, applications widened to packaging, wrapping, photography, insulation, etc. Paper was earlier made from papyrus, a plant mainly found in Egypt.
The Invention of Paper Machine
Earlier, paper was made with frames and molds. However, time and technology paved way for machinery that could roll out large amounts of paper with good quality in lesser time.
The first paper machine was the Fourdrinier machine, developed in 1807 by the Fourdrinier brothers. It had four main sections – Wet end, Press section, Dryer section, and Calendar section.
Paper Machine Technologies
Fourdrinier is widely used in paper mills, built of headbox, stock distribution system, separation mechanism, forming section, dryer, roll press section, reel, and calendar stack.
Twin-Wire formers are used to filter fabrics and various raw materials used for paper manufacturing.
Multiply formers are used for paperboard manufacturing with multiple screen covered cylinders.
The main equipment used in paper machinery includes: The Headbox, Forming Section, The Press Section, The Dryer, Calendering, Reel, Winder, Coating Unit, and Converting Unit.
Paper machines are classified into: Non-woven Fabric Production Mill, Tissue Mill, Kraft Paper Mill, Paper Machine, Kraft Line Paper Printing, Writing Paper, Paper/Board Machine.
